Next meeting will be April 28, and Jim Stevens will be demonstrating scrimshaw and monofilament art. You can view some of his work here.
The Wheat Ridge Art League was honored to have Master Pastelist, Dennis Rhoades for our March Demo. Dennis explained how he used a special sanded paper called U-art, tints it with a watercolor wash, and uses Twin-tack adhesive to bind it to a board. He starts by analyzing his black and white values, sketches on his paper, then starts with his darkest colors (preferring Terry Ludwig's eggplant purple), and works to the lighter colors. His fall foliage GLOWS with BRIGHT, brilliant reds, yellows and oranges!
A very important point was the variation of strokes and marks made for texture in your work. It was a pleasure to see to meet the artist and his AMAZING talent.
Thanks to Shirley Nakamoto for the photos and description.
It has been many years since this website was built, and it is time for a makeover. The entire site will look different, and hopefully be more attractive and functional. We are planning a member bio section where you can show some of your work and tell something about yourself, so the current member gallery will be replaced.
Please be thinking about what you want to say and what pictures you want to display. Contact Alex Hinst with any suggestions you want condsidered.
